The Texas Wesleyan University School of Education prepares educators to lead with confidence, insight and purpose.
Our faculty members are experienced superintendents, principals and district leaders who’ve faced the same challenges that educators deal with every day. They’ve led turnaround campuses, managed budget constraints and built cultures of excellence. This real-world experience is infused into every class discussion, and every assignment offers practical wisdom that our students apply immediately.
Students work closely with faculty who become mentors, as well as with peers who become lasting colleagues. The connections made at Texas Wesleyan center our community in a network of leaders committed to educational excellence across Texas and beyond.
At Texas Wesleyan University, our intentionally small campus has a Texas-sized reputation and a rich, 135-year history of excellence.
Rooted in its strong Methodist heritage, Texas Wesleyan offers transformative learning experiences and research opportunities that help a diverse student body reach their full potential as individuals and as members of the global community.
Faculty and staff are committed to scholarship and research that inform teaching and expand understanding. Through innovative teaching methods and flexible delivery formats, faculty provide each student with personalized attention. Our small-community model supports the development of critical thinking, analytical reasoning and creative problem-solving skills inside and outside the classroom.
We believe that a liberal arts and sciences education fosters mental flexibility and social awareness, which can lead to greater socioeconomic mobility. Faculty and staff work to support students from all backgrounds as they pursue undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees that enhance students’ lives, benefit their families and contribute to the strength of their communities.
Texas Wesleyan University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). This accreditation affirms our commitment to academic excellence and institutional quality.
The Superintendent Certificate offered through the Educational Leadership concentration meets Texas certification requirements only. Texas does not have reciprocity agreements with other states for superintendent licensure. Students seeking administrative licensure in other states should contact their state education agency to determine specific requirements.
Professional licensure/certification requirements vary by state and U.S. territory. The University may only enroll students in a licensure/certification program if they are located in a state/U.S. territory that accepts our program to meet the educational requirements for licensure/certification in their state/U.S. territory.
Alternatively, students may complete an attestation that they intend to seek employment in a state/U.S. territory that accepts our program. Certain disclosures to students are required related to the acceptance of the institution’s program by states/U.S. territories for licensure/certification purposes.
The regulations apply to new Texas Wesleyan University students applying directly into a licensure/certification program and to continuing Texas Wesleyan University students who seek a change of program into a licensure/certification program effective July 1, 2024.
Texas Wesleyan has contacted state and U.S. territory licensing/certification authorities to confirm whether its programs meet the educational requirements leading to professional licensure/certification. Other requirements may include professional certification exams, background checks and work experience, among others.
Requirements can change. If you intend to practice outside of Texas, you should contact the appropriate licensing/certification authority to verify whether Texas Wesleyan’s programs meet licensure/certification requirements before enrolling.
In education, the professional credential is referred to as certification instead of licensure, In many cases, the Texas Wesleyan University programs in education meet educational requirements for certification in other states and US territories through “reciprocity agreements,” meaning that students may obtain a license in the state/US territory by virtue of their Texas certificate, once passed. Such certifications may be temporary and additional requirements may need to be met for a permanent certificate. Students should review requirements carefully.
